Steel Stair Replacement – Safety and Craftsmanship on a Steep Riverbank
This project involved replacing an old, unsafe steel staircase that ran nearly 40 feet down a steep hill to a riverfront deck in Kent, New York. The original stairs were narrow, rusted, and sinking into the ground — making them dangerous to use.
Simon assessed the structure and designed a practical plan to rebuild the stairs with solid footing and a comfortable, wider run. The new staircase was built for safety, stability, and long-term durability while maintaining the natural beauty of the river setting.
The homeowners, longtime caretakers of their family cottage, were thrilled with the results — and so were the neighbors, who all noticed the improvement right away. The finished stairs now offer safe, easy access to the deck and blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.
